About

Hello and welcome

Greetings, I’m Cosette, the End-of-Life Doula behind Small Hours.

Originally hailing from vibrant Havana, Cuba, and nurtured in the lively atmosphere of Miami, Florida, my journey led me to settle in Melbourne, Australia, alongside my Aussie husband in 2012.

Loss is a universal experience, and, like many, I’ve faced the departure of loved ones. Some were fortunate to make early decisions about their care, ensuring a comfortable end-of-life experience aligned with their values. Unfortunately, this wasn’t always the case. We often find ourselves navigating end-of-life decisions with limited information, making swift choices under stressful conditions.

In 2017, my professional path intersected with Advance Care Planning Australia at Austin Health. Here, I encountered dedicated individuals in advance care planning, palliative care, and death doulas. Witnessing the unpreparedness of many for life’s inevitable conclusion, I recognised the profound importance of this work.

I remained in my role as a digital communications professional, working primarily in the health sector for organisations such as Breast Cancer Network Australia and BreastScreen Victoria. However, the compelling call became irresistible. In 2022, I completed end-of-life doula training with Preparing the Way, Australia’s leading end-of-life doula training organisation. I also completed a Certificate in Life Coaching with a focus on aged care counselling, have Professional Indemnity and Public & Products Liability insurance, and am a practitioner member of HELD, the peak body for the holistic end of life and death care community in Australia.

As an End of Life Doula, I aim to dispel fear and anxiety, providing empowerment and support. My mission is to guide individuals in making informed, intuitive, and intentional decisions during one of life’s most significant transitions.

Feel free to reach out if you have any inquiries or would like to connect. Thank you for considering Small Hours for your end-of-life support needs.
